ORIGINAL PEN AND INK DRAWING

[ translate ]

By Sarg, Tony
Sarg, Tony. ORIGINAL PEN AND INK DRAWING by Tony Sarg that was published in the December 1937 issue of Parents' Magazine. Chicago: The Parents' Institute, Inc., 1937. The image measures 12-1/8" wide x 9" tall on artist board measuring 14-3/4" x 11-1/2". The drawing depicts Santa Claus standing on a snow covered roof preparing to drop a rather strange looking doll down a chimney that is obviously actively in use as smoke is seen riseing from it. The fate of the strange doll is questionable at best. Another bit of Sarg humor found in this drawing is that Santa is clutching a rifle like he is prepared to use it as opposed to it being in his bag of gifts with all of the other presents. Maybe it is just the neighborhood! This drawing was published on page 100 of the December 1937 issue of Parents' Magazine under a section of the magazine named "Information Tests for Children". The drawing is signed by Tony Sarg in the lower right hand corner of the drawing. Sarg was a regular contributor to Parents' Magazine during the 1930s and early 1940s and this drawing is a wonderful example of the qualitly of work that he did for the magazine. The condition of the drawing is FINE. Sold with a copy of the December 1937 issue of Parents' Magazine where this drawing was published.
