Okimono - Elephant ivory - Geisha with parasol - Japan - Late 19th century (Meiji period) . Exceptional okimono depicting a geisha walking along with a parasol in hand with the intention of opening or closing it. Refined craftsmanship in every minute detail with the face particularly well done featuring a sweet facial expression typical of the Japanese geisha. A recurring subject that can be found in photos typical of the period. The parasol lines up perfectly and fits snug in her perfect hands. Signed Okoku on the base. In great condition overall. There is a natural crack in the ivory along the length of the dress that's been filled in. Japanese artefact from the Meiji period (circa 1890–1910) .
