29 May 1906: “Travelled by carriage to Euxinograd; the castle isn’t anything special, but the park is very beautiful. I’m staying in the old monastery and have the largest cell, which is lovely in pink.”
5 June 1906: “Sketched the fountain.”
6 June 1906: “Wanted to paint by the fountain, but there was no sun.”
7 June 1906: “Began painting the monastery garden with the fountain, and finished the whole atmosphere and the main subject.”
9 June 1906: “Early this morning I sketched the little staircase leading to the monastery garden and, after lunch, finished the fountain and the monastery courtyard; how glad I am that everything is complete.”
28 September 1906: “Set off for Vienna early with all the paintings; looked at frames at Melcher’s; at 11 am at the bank; at a quarter to 12 at the Palais Coburg. The Archduchesses were extremely kind and charming to me; the paintings were displayed in the salon and old Clementine Coburg also came to have a look. She liked everything; she bought the cloister courtyard and the study of elm trees.”
