Art (formerly Artemide) , 1996Description Ernesto Gismondi “the Engineer”, founder of Artemide, decided to revisit a cult chandelier model, designed by master of world design Gio Ponti in 1946, creating the extraordinary chandeliers series "Cigno", entirely made of Murano glass. The series was manufactured in 1996 with Ve. Art trademark, designed by Orni Halloween (a pseudonym, used by Gismondi at the beginning of his career) . The Company Ve. Art (Vetreria Artistica Murano) was founded in 1965 by Sergio Billiotti e Ludovico Diaz De Santillana. The latter, besides being the founder of Ve. Art, was the Art Director of the renowned Venini glassworks (as well as husband of Anna Venini, daughter of Paolo Venini, the founder of historical Venini glass company) . The company manufactured Murano blown art glass until the early 1990s and shortly thereafter the brand was absorbed by celebrated company Artemide. During Ve. Art short history, Mario Ticco from Venini glassworks, was the Art Director. He established important collaborations with world-renowned artists such as Toni Zuccheri, Umberto Riva, Tobia Scarpa and many others. The Designer After earning his degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Politecnico of Milano and a degree in Missile Engineering at the Scuola Superiore di Ingegneria in Rome, Ernesto Gismondi, along with famous designer Sergio Mazza, founded “Studio Artemide S. a. s. ” from which later emerged the “Artemide” group, today extremely well-known worldwide. Gismondi was one of the creators of Memphis Milano, along with Ettore Sottsass and Michele Lucchi, and also designer of several lighting devices for his own group, including the lamp series Sintesi, Nur and Discovery, and the lamps Miconos, Metacolor, Ilio. For his career and design works, Gismondi has received important awards such as the Compasso d’Oro alla Carriera (1994 and 2018) , the European Design Prize (1997) , the “Entrepreneur of the year 2008-2009” by Ernst&Young and the prestigious “Order of Merit of the Italian Republic”, bestowed by the President of Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano. Technical features The lamp is entirely made of coloured Murano glass inserted on a chrome-plated metal skeleton. Three colours, Green, Red and Purple/blue, blend in a rainbow of splendour. Ceiling suspension with extension adjustable from 83 to 142 cm, ø 85 cm. The version proposed here is called “Swan Suspension 6”, which is the suspension model (not a ceiling lamp) with six arms and as many light diffusers. Value In these same condition, the lamp has been sold at international auctions for about 2000 Euros. Condition The lamp is in excellent overall condition indeed. It is rare to find a 25-old object in such condition. Slight signs of ageing in the contact areas of the upper glass components only, inevitable since the glass parts are placed in direct contact with each other (obviously those signs are not visible and can be noticed only when the chandelier is disassembled. This also falls within the artisanal nature of the chandelier itself) , while arms and the whole metal structure are in excellent condition. Various “Ve. Art Hand Crafted, Made in Italy” stickers applied to the parts in Murano glass, guarantee the item’s authenticity and craftsmanship. The item is available for pick up in province of Milan (this option is heartily recommended, given the item fragility) . It can also be shipped via courier after proper packaging. If possible, in case of multiple purchases, shipping will be combined. Let yourself be inspired by the other Easy. Arte ads - Easy. Arte, is the Innovative Way to Communicate with Art.
