Group of 15 dynamic photographs depicting the student riots throughout Paris in May 1968.
Paris, with its longstanding position as the center of intellectual discourse, had never seen such intense violent, political protest during peacetime. The students, who initially protested the closure of the Nanterre School at the Sorbonne, became allied with labor protests and shutdowns due to decreases in government funding. Ferrotyped silver press prints, the images measuring 8 1/4x10 1/2 inches (21.5x26.7 cm.), and the reverse, many with lengthy captions, hand stamps, and notations, in pencil and/or ink, on verso. 1968
The unprecedented riots went on for two weeks during which time thousands of students clashed with the police and hundreds were injured.
