Color pastels and black chalk on grayish tan wove paper. 311x495 mm; 12 1/4x19 1/2 inches. Signed and titled in red pencil and pencil, lower left recto.

Dagnan-Bouveret was one of the leading French artists of the naturalist school. He studied under Alexandre Cabanel and Jean-Léon Gérôme in Paris during the late 1860s/early 1870s and exhibited frequently in Paris during the last three decades of the 1800s.
