[ translate ]

PETER LANYON
1918-1964
UNTITLED (RED ROOF AND YELLOW FOREGROUND)

signed twice; also signed, titled and inscribed on the reverse
oil on board
33 by 40.5cm.; 13 by 16in.
Executed circa 1938.

Condition Report:
The board bows slightly and appears sound. There is a small loss to the lower right corner, with further more minor nicks to the extreme edges of the work, not visible in the present frame. The grain of the board is very slightly visible in places. There are very fine lines of craquelure in the white pigment at the centre of the right edge, only visible upon very close inspection, with further instances to the white pigment of the house with one associated fleck of loss and possible further more minor instances elsewhere. There is flattening to some of the impasto tips. There is light surface dirt and studio detritus to the work, with some instances of accretions. This excepting, the work appears to be in very good overall condition.

Inspection under Ultraviolet light appears to reveal some fluorescence and probable retouching to the work, largely to the greenery. This has been very sensitively executed.

The work is held in a painted wooden slip in a gilt painted wooden frame.
