PIERRE AND FLORENT

[ translate ]

PIERRE AND FLORENT Cavalcade, Gabrielle Fragonard Museum of Fashion and Costume, 2026 They wear their costumes as one wears memories and traditions, riding proud steeds—white-robed companions on their journeys—and facing alongside them the trials dictated by fate. Whether in ribbons, lace, petticoats, headscarves, vests, pants, or shirts—braving the wind or facing the marshes—five contemporary horsewomen offer us a glimpse into their lives on their lands, from the Camargue to the banks of the Aude. Through textiles, intimate stories emerge—in the interplay of patterns, cuts, textures, symbols, and memories. Garments and styles that shape bodies and identities, often sewn by their own hands, sometimes passed down from one generation to the next. These women are descended from a lineage that spans millennia. Through both their traditions and their freedom, they reveal a world in motion—an inner landscape where they alone hold the reins. Blurring the lines between documentary, performance, and staging, *Cavalcade* weaves a choral work: five testimonies from female riders, a photographic film, a series of images, and an accumulating textile installation at the Fragonard Museum of Fashion and Costume. Working as a duo of visual artists since 2010, Pierre and Florent have developed a multifaceted body of work that explores memory and its transmission through clothing and objects, as told through the intimate stories of anonymous individuals. Straddling the line between documentary and performance, their photographs and installations explore identities, emotions, personal journeys, and their universality. The duo invites their subjects to engage in sensitive, intense, and poetic experiences, as part of a process of introspection—and at times, even healing. They document these stories through still and moving images, as well as through textile creations, to foster connection, reflection, and a shift in perspective. Represented by the Parisian gallery Porte B, their work has been exhibited notably at the Rencontres Photographiques du 10e, the Photaumnales, the Daejeon Photo Festival in Korea, and at the MAC Créteil for the Photoclimat Biennial. They are currently exhibiting their photographic series *Cavalcade* at the Musée de la Mode et du Costume Fragonard in Arles, following a *carte blanche* invitation from the museum’s director, Clément Trouche. Pierre & Florent are currently preparing a work for an exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in October 2027.
