PRECOLUMBIAN TAINO FULL FIGURED ANTHROPIC PENDANT
Pre-Columbian Taino masterfully carved large full figured Anthropic pendant, appears to be male. Pendants this size were likely “point of focus” objects used during specific ceremonial events to beckon the represented deity or ancestor. Made from beautiful speckled dark green serpentine. Strong frog head brow depicted on forehead. A long faced ghost figure materializes on the back. The suspension holes represent eyes, the roundels near base, the nose and feet the mouth. Definitely museum quality. Length 4.31 inches long. From the Taino culture of the Greater Antilles and dating c.1000-1500 A.D. Originally from the Dominican Republic. From the collection of Larry Roberts, author of “Taino Sculpture Art of the Gods” and “Taino Hallucinogenic Implements, Inhaling the Cosmic Dust”. Very good condition overall. This lot has a reserve.
