A WHITE JADE ‘CHRYSANTHEMUM’ TWO-HANDLED CUP
China, Ming Dynasty, 16th-17th century
The cup of chrysanthemum flower shape is flanked on the sides by a pair of angular handles. The outer rim is engraved with a frieze of grecques. The top parts of the handles carved in low relief with Daoist scholars in landscapes. The semi-translucent stone of pale celadon tone.
H: 3,6 cm cm – w: 12,3 cm
Weight: 77,6 grams
Provenance: An important collection of jade carvings, mostly Ming libation cups, properties from a French private collector, assembled over 20 years, pieces either bought privately or at public auction.
