Psalterium David bene correctum cum Antiphonis et Ymni in debitis locis... Upsaliae, Paulus Grijs, 1510.

8th (ca 192x136 mm., band 198x145 mm.). 99 leaves (out of 120, leaf 84, sign. Kviii and sheets 101-120, sign. CD8E4 is missing, replaced by photostat copies.
Later (early 20th century) partly worn brown calfskin band, gold pressed bezel, on the centre field of the front binder Thore Virgin's gold pressed exlibris, rich gold ornate back with five raised bindings, minor damage in upper edge. Title leaf laid in lower part of outer margin, as well as stained. Occasional minor marginal layers, partly slightly tarnished. Contemporary notes and owner inscriptions on title leaves verso and recto and sheet 4 recto. Some leaves with old cloth, some initials in red, otherwise uninscribed. Attribution by Per Hierta on the obverse of the cover page with his signature dated 1897, Thore Virgin's signature dated 1932.

Collijn I:s. 202-209. Lists 11 examples. (this included), of which only 2 complete. He has also printed off the old owner's note on the back of the title sheet of this copy.

Per Hierta writes: “Paulus Grijs' Psalterium is the first book printed in Uppsala, but it has the peculiarity of being printed with the same types as Snell's Dialogus creaturarum af 1483, the first dated Swedish printable. There might be a dozen or so, enl. Squeezing.”.

Provenance: Olaus Nicolai 1514, Jonas Petrij Montanus 1617 (both on the reverse side of the tiltelblad) Per Hierta 1897 (sold at his auction 1932, number 592), Thore Virgin 1932 (sold at his auction 1976, catalogue 3, number 905); Sven Borgström (1927-2023).
Sven Borgström was born in Malmö in 1927 and worked as a chemist in Stockholm, Malmö and Lund. He left behind a fine book collection of older books spanning the years 1469-1798. His book collecting began, as it should be, with an incunabula. Borgström's interests included both book printing, book tapes, book illustrations and he took an interest in history, travel and also maps. As a consequence of an earlier coin collecting, the subject of numismatics was also of interest in his library. Sven Borgström was 95 years old.Show more
