The works were first exhibited at Galerie Louise Leiris in Paris in late 1968 and early 1969, with the 347 series considered Picasso's masterpiece from the late years of his life published by Jiji Press and Publishing 21st Century. A significant and often controversial aspect of the series is its overtly erotic content. The 20 or so prints sparked considerable public debate after their initial exhibition, and many galleries decided to exclude them from display. This bold exploration of "bawdiness" and "selfish indulgence of human lust" reflects Picasso's uncompromising approach to human desire. The eroticism of this series led to the new name "Picasso Erotica."After completing the cycle 347, Picasso said: "With this, Picasso's name will live on for future generations." Picasso did not appear at the site of the exhibition, where his own works were displayed.
