Pacific Ocean.- Ortelius (Abraham) Maris Pacifici, (quod vulgo Mar del Zur), the first printed map devoted to the Pacific and the first to label the Americas separately as North and South subsequent to Mercator's 1538 world map, with decorative strapwork cartouches in the lower left and upper right corners, and with a large illustration of the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan's ship 'Victoria', and two further smaller ships, engraving, a fine impression, with hand-colouring on laid paper with armorial post-horn watermark, platemark 345 x 485 mm.
