Pair of Harrison & Tyler 1840 Campaign Pennants
Pair of hand-made William H. Harrison and John Tyler 1840 Presidential Campaign pennants. Each is composed of a blue linen with hand-painted orange gouache text (on one side) tacked to a tapering whittled wood dowel. Comprises: 1) Right-facing pennant boldly inscribed "North Bend / Farmer" and 2) Left-facing pennant boldly inscribed "Old Virginia / Never Tire". Both mounted together and contained under glass in a shadow box frame. Provenance: From a private European Collection. [Frame : 39 x 26 1/4 x 2 inches; "North Bend" pennant: 9 1/2 x 14 x 21 3/4 inches; "Old Virginia" pennant: 9 1/2 x 14 1/2 x 22 1/4 inches]. Both exhibit worn edges, short tears with some losses, small holes and stains.
