Pair of Parcel-Gilt Blackamoor Candelabras
DESCRIPTION: A Pair of Venetian Carved Painted and Parcel-Gilt Blackamoor Torchiere Candelabra. This sculptural blackamoor statue features a crouching male figure with Venetian red loincloth holding up and blowing a cornucopia horn. Adding to the exotic notion the figure's legs are intertwined with three silver gilt dolphins, a favored motif of the Venetian baroque, resting on a simulated rock carved three feet base adorned with sea life related specimens. The tops were later fitted with plastic orb globes.Â
Provenance: Purchased from Miami Beach Hotel in the 1960s.Â
