Pair of Vintage Indian Silver Dancing Figures

Southern Asia, India, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A charming pair of silver Indian dancers with dangling ornaments and bell-shaped bodies. They both stand on integral and concave pedestals with birds embossed around the rim. Their hollow bodies are comprised of 93% to 96.5% silver sheets molded and shaped to form their tubular legs and billowing skirts. Smaller pieces, twisted wires, and filigree shapes are applied to the surface. The most striking details are the dozens of loops with ball ornaments hanging from their skirts, arms, chests, ears, and headdress. One figure plays a stringed sitar while the other dances with one armed raised. A wonderful and mesmerizing portrayal of music and dancing. Size of smaller: 2.5" W x 9.75" H (6.4 cm x 24.8 cm); weight: 216.6 grams; size of larger: 3" W x 10" H (7.6 cm x 25.4 cm); weight: 336.9 grams; quality of silver: 93% to 96.5%

Condition Report: Small perforations and holes on the underside of skirt and headdress of both. Bending and indentations to both pedestals and bodies. Surface abrasions and nicks to high pointed areas. Nice iridescent patina on both.
