Vorhees was the son of Clark Greenwood Voorhees (1871-1933), who was one of the founders of the Old Lyme Art Colony. After establishing himself in his craft, he moved his carving business to its permanent home in Vermont. His marine mammal carvings were offered through the Four Winds Craft Guild on Nantucket.
