Pair of porcelain Imari plates from the Company of the Indies, model "Governor
Duff", Qing Dynasty (1730).
Tradition has it that the European couple walking the dog in the garden are Governor
Duff and his wife. Diedrik Duiven was general governor of Batavia between 1729 and
1731 and was nicknamed “Governor Dulate”. The Dutch refer to this model as
“Friesian couple.”
