Pasteur (Louis, French biologist, 1822-1895) Autograph Letter signed "L. Pasteur" to Charles Alexandre Drion, 3pp., 8vo, Lille, 18th July 1856, providing material for an article in the French newspaper La Revue, folds.

⁂ An important letter with significant scientific content.

Pasteur begins by providing Drion with a curriculum vitae up to the end of 1854, and gives a summary of his method of working. He goes on to discuss his work on asymmetry and optical activity: "In Pasteur's early work as a chemic, beginning at the École Normale Superieure, and continuing at Strasbourg and Lille, he examined the chemical, optical and crystallographic properties of a group of compounds known as tartrates...".
