Pelikan - Fountain pen

[ translate ]

About the Toledo style: Steel or iron is decorated with engravings (= Damascus steel) . Next a sheet of gold is placed over the pattern and embossed deep in the material by a hammer. Then the object is heated (800 degrees C.) , the steel surface oxidizes black and the gold starts to shine. The technique came via the Arabs to Spain and has been perfected during centuries especially in Toledo. In a Pelikan Toledo the decorative sleeve is made of sterling silver followed by a layer of gold or vermeil. Every Toledo is a unique piece because the tiny engravings are made by hand. Hence a maximum of only 200 pieces can be created per month. Cap, section and turnknob are made of high quality resin. Two tone 18 ct. gold nib M. Complete with original box and certificate. The pen was not used but kept as a collectible.
