Period Civil War Era Hand Forged Bowie Knife
Circa 1860, likely South Carolina. The piece has a hand hewn black walnut handle with wrought tang and guard. The blade has a nice patina and is accompanied by what looks to be the original leather scabbard. Nice and well preserved example. The piece is very much in the form of a Confederate Artillery Sword of the period. L18 1/2" Note: The knife has been passed down through the current owners family Dr. Theodore Crooke. The Crookes name dates as early as 1723; it is unclear whom the knife belonged to exactly.
