Petite Early 20th C. Nepalese Wood Mask

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $200**

Central Asia, Nepal, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden mask of a circular form with a concave verso. The hemispherical countenance presents with diamond-shaped eyes, a slender nose with gently flared nostrils, an ovoid mouth, and a pair of V-shaped ears. Atop the head is a perforated suspension tab that perhaps enabled the mask to be hung when not in use. Masks like this were used for the rich Nepalese mask festivals and may perhaps represent a shaman or a child. Size: 5.5" W x 6.125" H (14 cm x 15.6 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
