Petitot - French 1930 art deco chandelier

[ translate ]

PETITOT A stunning French 1932-1935 art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze by the famous Paris based company of H. Petitot holding three large panels and three side-shades. The 'bronzier' Antonin Petitot started the company in 1878. His son Henri Petitot took over in 1917. He wasn't a retailer and sold his lights to lamp shops and electriciens all over France, Europe and the States. In the early days of art deco they produced precious fixtures in high quality bronze with shades made by the best French glass factories such as Muller freres Degué and Schneider. In the late 30s they changed their style and produced lights in a modernist look often with opalescent EJG/Ezan shades. This model chandelier was first made around 1931 and in the five years that followed Petitot made fixtures in several variations. They are all holding these large panels in combination with this model side-shade. Both canopy and other parts of the mounting are marked with the usual Petitot initials AP for Antonin Petitot. The three panels are signed Petitot France. They were produced by Muller freres : they do exist unsigned as well and are also represented in the old Muller catalogues. For the side shades Petitot chose a well known model Degué shade and ordered unsigned ones for his chandeliers. Normaly Degué sold this model with its own Degué signature but for Petitot they made a new unsigned mould. The chandelier has a height of 88 cm and a diameter of 60,5 cm. It is in excellent condition. The mounting has been replated and the lamp is newly wired. It holds 6 european E14 candelabra sockets so you can use the lamp with energy safing LED bulbs. I will rewire it for the USA Canada or Japan with american candelabra base sockets. The chandelier will be shipped in two or three parcels. Safe packaging guaranteed : As specialized restorer of French art Deco lighting for over 20 years I ship my parcels worldwide with the fragile items well protected and fully insured.
