A collection of letters and ephemera related to British painter Constance Phillot, including: two autograph letters signed ('Constance Phillot') to her yster May Anne, one informing her "of our safe arrival here" and adding "We have a young, pretty and amiable landlady...We have begun fires, the place being very damp. But I think we may be very comfortable here...We can receive letters and newspapers only 3 days in the week, therefore all appointments should be made some time beforehand", three pages, 8vo, Woodhouse, Surrey, 5 August n.y.; the other letter describes her sojourn in Bognor Regis "Aftre seeing the castle, the duke and the church, we went into the park, which, like Cowdray, is open to the public every day. At first I was disappointed, for I expected a great deal from Arundel, but when we had gone not far into the park, we came to one of the loveliest spots I have ever seen, I don't think I have ever seen anything quite so beautiful. This was Swanbourne Lake, and the wood beside it", eight pages, Manor House, Bognor, 1 November n.y.; also including: five unsigned cartes-de-visite of Constance; three pencil drawings attributed to Phillot, two featuring Augustus Square, one depicting Old Cromwell House in Mortlake; a group of letters mostly addressed to Constance from various family members and correspondents; a group of acquatints after Phillot's works (quantity)
