She lives and works in Düsseldorf and Munich. After studying at the Lucerne School of Applied Arts, where she attended Anton Egloff's sculpture class from 1977 to 1980, Pia Fries moved on to the Düsseldorf Art Academy. She studied painting there from 1980 to 1986 and was a master student of Gerhard Richter. 1998-2000 she taught painting at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. From 2009 to January 2014, Fries was a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. Since February 2014 she holds a professorship for painting and graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich. Her work attracted international attention at the Venice Biennale in 1999. Excellent condition, from private collection.
