This painting is closely related to Monvoisin's study of the same subject now in the collection of the Ecole National Supérieur des Beaux-Arts, Paris.

Condition Report: Glue relined. Frame abrasion along the right and lower edges, with corresponding areas of restoration. Repaired hole (roughly 1 inch x 1/2 inch) in the shadows the lower left corner. Repaired 1/2-inch tear next to the left arm of the mourning woman seated on the floor. Restoration in the area around the head of the Cleopatra's bed. A few scattered touches of restoration elsewhere.
