Titi, elegantiam. . . Humillimus Servus et Cliens Io. Iacobus de Rubeis. Roma, Iacobus de Rubeis ( before 1677 ? ) Oblong quarto (cm 28 x 40) . Marble calfskin from the first half of the 18th century, decorative coat of arms in the centre of the covers, ribbed spine adorned with small embossing, title in tan morocco, the tailcap is missing, the headcap is jagged. The joints are split on the bottom, the gilding of the coat of arms on the back cover is partially erased. Binding with coat of arms of René-Alexandre Aubry de Castelnau lord and patron of Barneville. He was adviser to the Parliament of Paris and died in 1742 (OHR 2310) . First edition of the 44 plates drawn and engraved by Pietro Santi Bartoli, (1635 - 1700) , student of Nicolas Poussin. A very nice copy on large paper, all of the engravings are superbly preserved. The binding has the flaws described. This copy is complete and rare. De Rossi was active in Rome between 1638 and 1691.
