Sold for £620

Piranesi (Giovanni Battista, & others). Roma antica distinta per regioni, secondo l'esempio di Sesto Rufo, Vittore, e Nardini; ornata di rami [...Roma moderna distinta per rioni, e cavata dal Panvinio, Pancirolo, Nardini, e altri autori ... nuova impressione], 2 volumes, Rome: Fausto Amidei, 1741, xvi 378, 396 pp., engraved title vignettes, 56 folding engraved plates after Piranesi and others (including 3 large plans), light browning, short closed handling tears to inner margins of plans, bookplates partially effaced from front pastedowns, contemporary vellum, manuscript spine-titles, 8vo (16.2 x 9.8 cm)

(Qty: 2)

Copies are also known with the imprint of Giovanni Lorenzo Barbiellini: these are variously encountered with 36, 37 or 38 plates. The Fitzwilliam Museum copy of the present issue, with the imprint of Fausto Amidei, notes 57 plates rather than the 56 found here: a frontispiece is recorded in some copies of the Barbiellini issue and it is possible that one is absent from our copy. Fourteen of the plates are after Piranesi.
