Prehispanic Fantastic Beast Rattle

14th-15th century AD or later. A copper-alloy Pre-Columbian style zoomorphic rattle modelled in the round as a fantastical beast standing on all fours, head turned to the right, large ears pricked forwards over bulbous eyes and nostrils, rolled rim around the mouth, held ajar revealing four triangular fangs, humped lower back, tail formed as a second beast head with similar features, toes curled under in a gripping posture, with ribbed texture; rattle contained in each of the eyes and in the body; loops to the soles of the forepaws.
