Three-quarter portrait of an elderly lady, dressed in a black, traditional costume with a green decorative brooch, standing at a chair, early, glazed, still academic portrait painting from Pampel's student days at the Munich Academy, oil on canvas, signed and dated "H. Pampel [18]94" at lower left, slightly in need of cleaning, partially retouched, in a wide, partly gold stuccoed frame with incised acanthus decoration, rebate dimensions approx. 116 x 86 cm. Artist info: actually Carl Hermann Pampel, english Painter, graphic artist and commercial artist (1867 Mohlsdorf near Greiz until 1935 Munich), 1881-86 apprenticeship as porcelain painter in the porcelain manufactory Fraureuth, 1887-89 wanderings among others to Bonn, Ilmenau and Teplitz in Bohemia, studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule Dresden with Alfred Diethe from 1889-93, at the same time making commercial prints (invitation cards, newspaper illustrations, posters and ex libris) for a living and was employed by the Lithographische Anstalt in Dresden on the basis of these works, 1893 hike from Dresden on foot, over the Ore and Fichtelgebirge mountains, through Franconian Switzerland to Nuremberg and further via Regensburg to Munich, studied with Wilhelm von Dietz from 1893-97, at times with a master studio at the Munich Academy, 1899 freelance in the Vogtland region (Möschlitz and Burgk) for one year, from 1900 freelance in Munich, including teacher at the school of the Munich Women Artists' Association, attended the International Art Exhibition in the Munich Glass Palace in 1913, won the 1st prize in the "Kunsthalle" (International Art Exhibition) in Munich in 1913, and was awarded the 1st prize in the "Kunsthalle" (International Art Exhibition) in Munich in 1893. Prize and was awarded a gold medal, 1914 International Graphic Exhibition in Leipzig, during the 1.
