Literature: This pumpkin sculpture depicts the optical polka dot pattern in bold colors for which Yayoi Kusama is perhaps best known for. Kusama first used the pumpkin design at the 1993 Venice Biennale for the Japanese pavilion and since then it has appeared in various iterations. This work, colored red with black polka dots, is a scaled down version of her ‘Red Pumpkin’ on Naoshima Island, Japan.
