[ translate ]

Stunning dome filled with 3 finest quality Morpho Menelaus butterflies. Prepared, gilded and mounted by real craftsmanship, by Robert Mars. ( please see photos/tag) Morpho Menelaus a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. The scientific name of the species is validly published for the first time in 1874 by Carl Heinrich Hopffer. The blue colour of the butterfly is not caused by pigment but by the microscopic structure of the wings and is therefore a structural colour. The colour changes somewhat with the observation angle and the intensity increases strongly with striking light. This is called iridescent. The males are brighter in color than the females who also have a brown border with white spots on the front wing. The underside of the wings is brown with different 'eyes'. The butterfly has a wingspan of between 100 and 120 millimetres. Dimensions Glass Dome: Height: 28 cm Width: 18 cm Notice: The butterflies are not wild-caught but farmed to create this piece. Is shipped with extreme care and sent by registered post
