Quarter plate ruby ambrotype of an armed but unidentified infantry private out of Aiken, South Carolina, wearing a seven-button sack coat. The short jacket appears to have seven flat, wooden buttons cut with a short stand-up collar. The private holds a P'53 Enfield Rifle and wears a plain rifleman's leather belt with buckle. Although lacking a studio marking, this image was almost certainly photographed by Quinby Studios in Charleston, SC. Housed in half case with ring attached at top for hanging on wall.
