RARE RUSSIAN PORCELAIN ICON PLAQUE 1853. Comprising a rare Russian Imperial Porcelain Factory hand-painted icon plaque, dated 1853. Depicting two waist-up images of The Holy Alexi Fool for God (left) and the Holy Mary Magdalene (right) each identified with gilt inscriptions above their heads which are encircled with haloes. The verso with blue cypher of Nicholas I and inscribed in Cyrillic, "August 24, 1853." Probably related in some manner to Tsar Alexander II and his wife the Empress Maria Alexandrovna. Alexander's wife name was Maria, and their 5th child's name was Alexis, born in 1850. Size: 8.6 inches x 11.5 inches (22 x 29.5 cm).
