R.B.RODDA MARKED WEBLEY MARK IV REVOLVER

SERIAL 128248. BARREL 4". CALIBER .455. In about 1850 R B Rodda & Co opened their shop and office in Calcutta at 5 1/2 Tank Square (re-named Dalhousie Square in 1872). The Webley Mk IV, chambered in .455 Webley, was introduced in 1899 and soon became known as the "Boer War Model"on account of the large numbers of officers and non-commissioned officers who purchased it on their way to take part in the conflict. It is a double action, six shot, top break with gutta percha large birds head style grips. The left side has caliber stamp, Webley patent stamp and the Rodda engraving on left side of barrel. Every cylinder flute has Birmingham proof. All metal surfaces are a mottled gray brown patina. Grips show wear. Model number stamped on left side of top frame. Indexes and locks up perfectly .Rifling is strong with minor abrasion. Butt has lanyard ring. C&R
