In early May of 1910, Roosevelt visited Berlin in order to deliver a lecture at the University of Berlin, intending to be the guest of Kaiser Wilhelm II, but, because of the death on May 6th of the Kaiser's uncle, King Edward VI, Roosevelt met the Kaiser only briefly in Potsdam and remained at the American Embassy for the remainder of his stay.
