Richard Lewisohn (1875-1961) was a German-American surgeon who, in 1947 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, treated Babe Ruth's cancer with an experimental drug for six weeks, during which time the symptoms of the cancer had begun to subside. The effects of the treatment were temporary, however, and Ruth died in August of the following year.
