Rare Dinosaur leg bone set from a Diplodocoid Sauropod

[ translate ]

Rare Dinosaur leg bone set from a Diplodocoid Sauropod, Late Cretaceous Period, c. 100 - 66 million years ago, Morocco. This is a complete leg with all bones from the same Diplodocoid sauropod dinosaur, including its femur, tibia and fibula bones. The bones have been minimally repaired and restored, with about 5-7% repair/restoration to the femur, and repair and crack filling to the tibia and fibula. The femur was likely more exposed to the elements, as there is some erosion loss, which was opted to not reconstruct to retain as much of the natural integrity of the bone as possible. The blue-gray and plum colors of the bone are stunning, and much of the detailed bone surface is impeccably intact. The bones are offered loose (separated), but a steel armature could be made by a metal fabrication studio to mount the bones as they would naturally be together. They display equally as impressive laying down on a table or other setting, which conveys the length and size of this creature. Sauropod fossilized bones are immeasurably more rare than any bones from the North American region, and associated major dinosaur limb bones are rarer still! Assembled: 76 inches in length; Femur: 48 ½ inch long; Tibia: 30 ½ inches long; Fibula: 28 inches long. Ex French private collection.

Condition: The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections , the effects of aging, or repair/restoration work. Interested bidders are strongly encouraged to request a condition report on any lots upon which they intend to bid, prior to placing a bid, and we will be happy to give you a full overview of the items' condition.
