[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $800**

Egypt, Coptic, ca. 5th to mid 7th century CE. A superb polychrome Coptic textile presenting botanical specimens, possibly papyrus or lotus flowers, with green stems/leaves and red buds/blossoms - in vibrant hues of raspberry red, blush pink, and verdant green - all against a natural ground. By the 5th century, Egyptian textiles began to show Byzantine and Syrian influences and present naturalistic representations of fruits, birds, and flowers like this example. In addition, the textiles of this period traditionally featured bold coloring as we see in this example. A beautiful Coptic textile, replete with fine technique and artistry as well as intriguing iconography set in a gold and orange painted frame under glass. Size: 14.5" L x 12" W (36.8 cm x 30.5 cm); 21" L x 17.125" W (53.3 cm x 43.5 cm) including frame
