Rare George III Sterling Silver Entree Dish with Cover, Coaching Scene, by John Robins, London, dated 1801

Dish with rounded corners, fluted body, gadrooned cast rim, with fitted dome cover detachable handle fashioned as a twigs, scroll design on top and sides cast with repousse motif depicting coaching travel, hunters with prey and hounds chasing a hare in the fields, with old trees at corners. Marked with king's head, crowned leopard head, maker's mark of John Robins, London, and date letter for 1801 on body and cover. Total weight 49.68 toz.

Provenance: old prominent private collection, Pittsburgh, PA; gifted to current owner's mother in mid. 1970's from Elizabeth Braun Ernst (her father Arthur E. Braun was president of the Farmers Deposit National Bank in 1919 and publisher of the Pittsburgh Post and the Pittsburgh Sun, and became a chairman of the advisory committee of the Mellon Bank in 1950; Warwick Terrace Estate, Morewood Heights, Pittsburgh; contemporaries of Andrew Carnegie).

Condition: Good, some tarnish and polish residues, normal wear fro use, small old restoration to side.
