Rare Large European Bronze Age Burnished Pottery Olla

Europe, Western Iberian Peninsula, Lusitanian culture, Bronze Age, ca. 900 to 500 BCE. A large vessel made from an orange-red clay with a deep, bulbous body, a wide, flaring, tall neck, a slightly rolled rim, and two lugged handles whose edges flare outward. The vessel stands on a flat foot. Eight small, round dimples on the surface, around the neck and around the handles, create a minimalist decoration on the surface. This item was made to be used in a domestic context, probably for cooking, and likely ended its functional life deposited in a grave. Size: 11.4" W x 10.75" H (29 cm x 27.3 cm)

Condition Report: Narrow crack down the rim from the mouth to about halfway down the neck, otherwise in excellent condition. Nice mottled surface with deposits.
