Rare Master-Kaster Pump Action Rod & Reel
Made by the Utility Manufacturing Company out of Wheeler, OR, this No. 2 size, the smaller of the two sizes produced (a larger #3 size, for saltwater use was also made), is in Ex condition. The invention of Dr. Harvey Rinehart and Joseph C. Berry (patent #2028311 issued on Jan. 21, 1936), this unique rod was built with the intention of providing fishermen with arthritis a way to fish with less pain. Made of Monel metal, the combo was advertised as rust proof. Featuring a push button free spool release, falling line guide and anti-backlash control, this pump action rod and reel combo still operates smoothly, bringing in line by pumping the fore grip of the rod. Marked with serial number 486, a unique piece that would allow the angler to add a rod to the open ferrule at the end of the handle.
