Rare Meisselbach Free Spool Surf Reel
A first version Free Spool reel, circa 1911 with a 3 1/2" diameter and 1 15/16" wide spool, that features a quick twist off head plate cap, automatic drag switch and sliding click switch on the tail plate, and straight counter balanced handle. The underside of the full-length foot is stamped "A.F. Meisselbach & Bro. - Newark, N.J. - Pat. Apl'd For", with serial number 195 at the end of one foot end. This particular reel appears on page 131 of Antique Fishing Reels - 2nd Edition by Steve Vernon, with an internal photo that shows clutch mechanism. With blemish free hard rubber, a VG+/Ex- condition reel.
