Rare Talbot Ben Hur Model 101 Fly Reel

Exceptional condition "Wm. H. Talbot Co. - Nevada, Mo. USA" marked German silver and aluminum Ben Hur fly reel. As advertised in a 1907 catalog, Abercrombie & Fitch was the exclusive New York agent for Talbot reels, with two sizes offered, a No. 100 and a No. 101. This example, a size 101, has a diameter of 2 1/2" and a 1" wide spool. The subject of a January 22nd, 1901 patent, the shouldered pillars featured on this reel provided more support for the frame and extended to the outer face of the head plate. This serial number 2869 example has a graceful "S" shaped handle with black hard rubber grasp, aluminum spool flanges and rear mounted click switch, all of which sold for the sum of $10.00 in 1907.
