Rare arbalète pour la chasse aux gros gibiers, par Ortéga maître arbalétrier à la cour royale de Tolède, Espagne vers 1560. L'arc est en acier à courbure marqué «In Domino», à gauche et «Confido» à droite, signifiant « j'ai confiance dans le Seigneur», entre deux poinçons de Tolède. Sur la courbure intérieure de l'arc sont frappées les lettres L à gauche et M à droite, la marque du réputé maître tolédan Luis Moréno, fabricant d'arcs en acier. L'arbrier droit en noyer uni est muni d'un canal en buis, la noix ronde est en ivoire. Sous l'arbrier, une plaque en fer portant deux pitons pour accrocher le tendeur de la corde. Longue queue de détente, en fer, gravée du nom Ortéga suivi d'un écu couronné. Très bon état. Espagne, vers 1560 L. de l'arc: 54 cm - L. de l'arbrier: 88 cm Rare crossbow for hunting big game, by Ortega, master crossbowman at the royal court of Toledo, Spain, circa 1560. The bow is made of curved steel marked ‘In Domino' on the left and ‘Confido' on the right, meaning ‘I trust in the Lord', between two Toledo hallmarks. The letters L on the left and M on the right are stamped on the inner curve of the bow, the mark of the renowned Toledo master Luis Moréno, a manufacturer of steel bows. The straight, plain walnut shaft has a boxwood channel and the round nut is made of ivory. There is an iron plate under the shaft with two pegs for attaching the string tensioner. The long iron trigger tail is engraved with the name Ortéga followed by a crowned shield. Very good condition.
