Rare hanging scroll (kakejiku) with an anonymous polychrome elegant painting depicting the Buddhist goddess of good fortune and beauty Kichijoten (Sanskrite: Laksmi) with in one hand three wish-fulfilling pearls (mani) and the other hand in the giving gesture, attributed according the (double) box to Tosa Mitsunobu (c. 1434-1525) . (The box calls the figure Benzaiten, the goddess whose imagery and attributes have largely supplanted those of Kichijoten since the 15th/16th century. Benzaiten is often regarded as a form of Kichijoten (Daibenzaiten) . Edo period. Size; H. : 176 cm, W. : 59 cm Lot will be carefully packaged and sent by registered post.
