In the manner of George Bullock, circa 1820
The reverse-breakfronted top above a conforming case with bead-and-reel-molded frieze and a pair of grille-inset doors opening to a shelf and flanked by flaring columns with pierced capitals, arched panels inlaid with neoclassical bacchantes on scolling supports and columns, the sides with cupboard doors, on a conforming plinth; the top formerly fitted with a backboard. A related drawing by Bullock of a female figure with billowing robes is found in the Wilkinson Tracings, City Museums and Art Galleries, Birmingham; see Levy, M., (1990). 'George Bullock: Aspects of His Development and Influence', Antologia di Belle Arti, Il Neoclassicsmo, nn. 35-36-37-38., pp. 67-74, figs. 2 and 3. For cabinets with similar marquetry panels to the doors, see Christie's, London, September 4, 1987, lot 121 and Phillips, Leeds, July 25, 1990, lot 65.
