Regency style armchair. France, second half of the 19th century.
Walnut wood structure and Aubusson upholstery.
Measurements: 130 x 60 x 70 cm.
Armchair with walnut wood frame and period Aubusson upholstery. Raised on curved legs, it has carved decoration that adopts vegetalised forms, an ornamentation similar to that which can be seen on the waist of the piece of furniture, which gives way to the upholstered seat. The armrests, also made of wood, have a soft area covered with upholstery, which provides greater comfort, contrasting with the rigidity of the wood. The backrest, defined by a profile of curved lines, has a prominent crest, decorated at the top with a scallop motif. The seat, backrest and armrests have period Aubusson upholstery, one of the most important tapestry workshops alongside those of Felletin, Gobelins and Beauvais from the 16th century onwards. During the Regency period in France, numerous salons developed, bringing together all the high society and intellectual class of the time. This contributed to an increased interest in decoration and taste in the decorative arts, which helped to define a space and convey a specific message to the host.
