Related to Josiah Harmar, Society of the Cincinnati

Material related to Josiah Harmar (November 10, 1753 – August 20, 1813) who was an officer in the United States Army during the American Revolutionary War and the Northwest Indian War. He was the senior officer in the Army for six years and seven months (August 1784 to March 1791).Comprising: an engraving by John Sartain after the painting by Raphael Peale, a notebook memorandum owned and written by Josiah Harmar with dates starting at 1804, four CDVs of family related to Harmar including his son, an 18th century 14k gold medal of the Society of the Cincinnati which retains the original ribbon and silver clasp, and a circa 1870 medal also from the Society of the Cincinnati which is also 14k gold and retains the original ribbon and 14k gold bar pin. These items have descended in Harmars family to this date.

Dimensions:The medals are 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" long, the notebook is 7 1/2" x 5". The combined approximate weight of the two medals is 18 dwt.
Condition Report: The interior oval element of the earlier medal is lost, the ribbons show wear and staining, all of the CDVs show wear as pictured and the notebook has losses, stains and the cover is loose to the contents.
