Reliquary Statue Base (1) - Silver gilt, Softwood - Mid 18th century
A stunning reliquary base for a wooden statue. Treated with mecca Richly decorated with all-round carving. The round compartment was likely intended for holding a relic. The golden triangle with the eye representing the Trinity is assumed to have been added later. It was also called the Triangle of Providence, a symbol also adopted by the Freemasons. This could also suggest the last modification was made right by a Freemasonry lodge.
